Last night I dreamed of chickens
Last night I dreamed of chickens,
there were chickens everywhere,
they were standing on my stomach,
they were nesting in my hair,
they were pecking at my pillow,
they were hopping on my head,
they were ruffling up their feathers
as they raced about my bed.
They were on the chairs and tables,
they were on the chandeliers,
they were roosting in the corner
they were clucking in my ears,
there were chickens, chickens, chickens
for as far as I could see ...
when I woke today, I noticed
there were eggs on top of me.

This is the delightful page I received from Helen in South Africa. I love it.........my theme is "travelling", so here I am burning down the highway in my hot machine, with the wind whipping my hair and my gorgeous travel bag secured on top.
How I'd love to do that.......except I don't have a convertible nor do I have long hair.......but when I close my eyes, there I am going for it !!!!
I have a pair of red leather gloves which I wear every chance I get, so they are very appropriate and I love the dachshund on the top.....it looks like a bed to me, so I could pop up there and have a nap when I get tired of all the admiring looks I get !!!
Helen said the car is made from TAP, I've never had any success with that product, so I admire anyone who has and I do keep a journal of our travels, so the fabric fits in with that too.
The photos are both the front & back.......thanks Helen.....

vintage peacock for Shelly
Shelly asked for a birdpage in vintage style. I dumped peacock, lace edging and white cotton into tea for a tinted effect. The peacock is embellished with wax pearls and the blue lace has ivory colored beads that I received through a swap. Being Dutch, I'm not really familiair with vintage. I was glad this one turned out OK

Funky Bird
Last night I received this gorgeous page by Frances. She didn't have to make up a funky bird, because the Australian emu qualities completely for this title.
I love the emu print and photo's and also the handmade silkpaper is gorgeous.
Thank you Francis, I love everything you've made and sent. A lovely addition to my book.

These are pages I received this week from Maya and Cobi.......beautifully done....thanks girls.
Cobi's page is all about the stunning tulip fields of the Netherlands. I've never been there but the colours and photos I've seen in travel magazines make me wish I was able to see them in person. Lots of lovely hand stitching and again, beautifully rich colours.
Maya's page is beautiful silk fabrics with lots of stitching and photos attached. It's beautiful rich shades of blue and blue/green exactly as you'd expect the ocean to be. I'm not a sailor nor a boatie but I do love looking at the ocean and water in general......there's something very calming about being near the sea.

This is the page I made for Shelly.....her theme was "Vintage & Birds". I received a box of vintage doilies so I embroidered one in variegated cotton to use a background. I had a piece of vintage silk from an old coathanger of my grandmother's and I ironed an iron transfer for the flapper and gramophone onto the silk. I machined those pieces onto the doiley using rayon thread & a decorative stitch on my machine. I embroidered the flapper using a variety of threads with pigment pen highlighting her legs, arms, gloves, face & hair. The gramophone was embroidered in cotton floss. The birds were very faintly stamped on and I embroidered them using a thicker silk thread.
I was pretty pleased with the way it turned out & I think Shelly was too.

flower page for Francis by Cobi
I like to wrap the page like it's a little present.
Francis asked for pages with a garden or flower theme. I love making and working with flowers, so this was right up my alley. I made the background fabric from 2 pieces of hand dyed cotton which I cut in strips and then braided together again. Alle leaves and flowers come from my stash. Flowers are folded in 3.
This is the backside of the page. I enjoyed making this page but it took so much time that I fell behind making pages. But I'm working on it.

Tea - page from Helen
I ought to have introduced myself in my first post but since that didn't happen I'll do it now.
my name is Maya and I live in Southern India. I'm a part of this delightful group and my theme is Tea. I love tea.
This is the first page I received from Helen in South Africa. made with tea bags and cut outs of different tea pots. There is a golden shimmery fabric on the top and therefore the details of this beautiful page could not be captured in the photograph.
Helen sent me a tea bag of Rooibos tea, so I got to taste this tea for the first time. Helen also sent me a postcard of Table Mountain which will go into the pocket on the back of the page and a lovely piece of fabric with prints of blue and white china teacups and teapots. I plan to make the cover of the book with this fabric.
I've received two more pages. I shall be posting pictures and details of the pages next week.
Vintage Bird for Shelly
This is the page I created for Shelly.
The theme was Vintage Bird. The vintage got a tiny bit bling but It was a page which came together with not much prior planning.

page for Francis
The page I made for Francis is still working it's way through the mail system. Here you can see a bit of the backside of the fabric shining through. Front will be revealed upon arrival.
page for Sue
Susie's theme is "what I like to see". I had many idea's for this page. I love to see my family and pets. I love trees, fungy and flowers. I love chocolate and cherries. And what to think of books, knitting yarns and such.
Finally I decided to go for colors. I love my fabrics, either hand dyed or bought. I love embroidery.
Working abstract is something I'm still learning, but I'm getting the hang of it (at least, I think so). Here you see the lay-out, the base onto which I built the page.
I searched my sheer fabrics with the help of my kitty.
I picked some hand dyed cottons too. I started out with some blueish-greenish fabric and added colors to that. In the end I had to drop the initial fabric, but I'm happy with this combo.
I had a lot of fun with embellishing with various types of embroidery floss and beads.
But I don't think this is what Susie was expecting.

Here are some photos of my finished book from last year'
s swap. My theme was home and garden and I received some absolutely gorgeous pages from around the world. They were all so different but came together wonderfully. I added the covers, inside covers and 1 whole page to even the numbers to have pages in pairs (signatures). I stitched each pair by hand along the inside edge loose enough for the double page to lay flat. The covers had a hinge to wrap around the spine.

No. 2 in Bush Fire series
Better do another post before I forget how to do it!
This is No 2 in the bush Fire Series and it is called "Premonition"
The photos are printed on fabric, some with digital manipulation, others printed onto dyed cotton to give a hazy effect. Leaves or handmade silk paper appliques and there is a partial overlay of net.

Introduction
Introduction. From Frances - Trying to get this blogging thing going!
So far so good - loaded a photo.....this is " Ignition" and is No. 1 of the Bush Fire series, a challenge to produce 5 mini quilts (size 12 x 15 ) subject own choice, but must be linked either by colour, design or style. The twist in the brief was to include a graffiti tag which we had designed.
I'll load the others if this actually appears.
